Leave your Playa bike behind

Every year the Playa is littered with junk bicycles after Burning Man. While not as bad as an oil spill, bikes are MOOP that can't be simply tossed onto a burn pile. They have to be picked up with DPW vehicles, stored while determining if any of the bikes are stolen, hauled off of the Playa, and so on. Abandoned bikes make this process exponentially more cumbersome.

As an alternative to walking away from your bike after the Burn, drop your bike at Hammer And Cyclery (address announced in July). If you donate us a useable bike we will fix it up for next year and bring it back to the Playa for a new rider. Even completely trashed bicycles can be invaluable as parts bikes to help keep other Burners moving. Any bikes you bring to us will be removed from the Playa and used to the best of our ability.

In the "real world" we work at a used bicycle shop in Minneapolis where our mission is to find the best uses of old bicycles. We sell what we can. We scrap a few. But most of the bikes we receive as donations are shipped to Africa. Your contribution will not be landfilled. Find out a bit more at MoreThanABicycle.com.
